Since 1643, there has been a sawmill in Leidschendam at the Vliet: De Salamander. This unique mill is an octagonal thatch roofed mill that is still fully operational. Windmill guides take visitors around, telling them about the history and workings of the mill and the unique sawing process. Young and old can experience how the windmill has been sawing logs of different kinds of wood such as beech, elm and oak into planks for centuries.

The mill is open for visits every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon from 12:00 to 16:00.

Separate arrangements can be made for group tours.
