Cycle route Along the Vliet and through the Nieuwe Driemanspolder
Leiden, Zoeterwoude, Zoetermeer
In the year 2020, the Nieuwe Driemanspolder was realised between Leidschendam-Voorburg, Zoetermeer and Stompwijk. Where there used to be meadows, it is now an area full of bird ponds, recreation, marshland, plants and animals. During this cycle route, you will cycle through this new area. Stompwijk is a village that lies along the Stompwijkse Vaart; formerly used a lot by bargemen. Along the canal, you'll see many turning and drawbridges. It is also close to the Starrevaart lake, where birdwatchers like to bring their binoculars or camera. Voorschoten is a green municipality as well. The Duivenvoorde corridor (named after the castle) is part of the main ecological structure of the Netherlands.
These beautiful nature spots in combination with the historic center of Leiden ensures you of a wonderfully varied day of cycling!
