Cycle route through the East -Achterhoek
Aalten, Winterswijk, Bredevoort
Winterswijk and surroundings have been rewarded the title of National Landscape. Cycling in the East of the Achterhoek gives a nice view of the coulisse landscape. On the east side of Aalten lies the nature reserves Loohuisbos and the Estate Walfort which are part of the National Landscape Winterswijk. You will see hedgerows and old forests of coarse pines, often over a hundred years old. From Nature observation post-Vragenderveen, you can see the beautiful landscape from an impressive distance.
In combination with the windmills and museums on this cycle route, you will make a whole day out of it. You'll cycle past the hiding museum Markt 12 and the rural farm museum De Neeth. If you're going for the traditional Dutch immersion moments, then it's worth stopping at the Venemansmolen, also known as the old windmill, and the Meenkmill. If you are more of an art lover, admire the Mondrian Monument along the way.
Café Schiller is located towards the end of the cycle route, near the lively town of Aalten. Get off your bike for a well-earned beer and enjoy a meal with vegetables from our vegetable garden.
