Cycle route in No Man’s Land

Zeewolde, Wolderwijd
Discover a surprising part of the Netherlands between Zeewolde and Almere with this green cycle route. The tour takes you through the varied polder landscape of southern Flevoland, where young nature, water-rich views and special cultural sites alternate.
During the route, you will cycle along the peaceful Nijkerkernauw, a long, narrow lake that forms a natural border between Gelderland and Flevoland. Here you will experience the vastness of the polder combined with the dynamics of nature that is still in full development. Occasionally, a watchtower appears, where you can take a break and enjoy the view of marshlands, reed beds and lakes teeming with birds – characteristic of this unique region.
Along the way, there are several places where it is worth stopping, such as the farm shop at BIO Boerderij Verduyn. Make a stop at this organic farm and taste the purity of Flevoland. Here you can buy honest, locally grown products such as seasonal vegetables, dairy products or freshly baked bread. Ideal to take with you or enjoy on the spot at a picnic table surrounded by greenery.
You will also see art along the way. Richard Serra's impressive artwork Sea Level is an iconic landmark in the polder. It marks the height of the sea level relative to ground level and encourages reflection on water management, landscape and the human impact on nature. A beautiful place to pause and contemplate the remarkable origins of Flevoland.
There are several viewpoints along the route. From here, you get an impressive view of the “young nature” that has formed since the land was reclaimed. These areas have now become a refuge for many species of birds and other animals, ideal for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
