Cycle route Highlights around Winterswijk

Winterswijk, Kotten, Winterswijk Meddo
Traces from the Jurassic Lias period have been found in the vicinity of Winterswijk. The Jurassic is the name of the geological period that lasted from approximately 201.3 to 145 million years ago. Lias is the name for the first/lower stone layers from the Jurassic period. The soil of Winterswijk can therefore be called monumental. That is why the government has declared this area of no less than 22,000 hectares the Winterswijk National Landscape. The unique soil is clearly visible in the quarry at junction 22.
Because the landscape was literally and figuratively in a remote corner, separated by marshes, it was able to develop into the nature reserve it is today. The landscape is best known for its many ash trees and winding streams. This cycle route takes you past all these breathtaking nature reserves. From high moors to bocage landscapes, from forests to lakes. You will see it all around Winterswijk!
During this route, you will pass two catering establishments that are connected to each other, because at LEV. by Mike you can taste the quality wines of the Achterhoek region from Vineyard Hesselink.
