Tourist Information Office & Historical Museum - Elspeet
Elspeet is a very old village, as is betrayed by its name: “El” is “old”, (as in English “elder”) “speet” means “site made fit for habitation” - compare the English word “spade”. Old development would be a good translation. Nunspeet therefore means “new development”. Elspeet offers peace and quiet amidst stunning natural beauty. The fields surrounding the old characteristic farmsteads become woods, teeming with wildlife. If you’re lucky, you will spot red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boars. There is even a shepherd who guides his sheep across the heathland, and who is available on specific dates to tell visitors all about the daily routines in a sheep fold. The historical museum (Historisch Museum) organises annual exhibitions about the Second World War. For as little as 3 euros per person, you get immersed in the history of Elspeet and the Veluwe region.
