Fort near Rijnauwen - Bunnik
The Fort near Rijnauwen is the largest and greenest fortress in the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie (New Dutch Waterline), covering an area of 31 hectares. Because of its architectural style and flawlessness, the fort is historically unique. Nature has also been able to develop its full potential here, making it a paradise for rare animals and plants. The fort can only be visited during guided tours and events such as the Open Monument Days. The guided tours (from 10 years of age) with a forester from the Forestry Commission take place between 1 April and 1 October. Regular tours are on Wednesday at 10.30 am and Saturday at 1.30 pm (two and a half hours), on Sunday at 10.30 am there is a family tour. The tour lasts one and a half hours. It is not possible to make a reservation for this tour. A guided tour of the fort can be combined with a visit to the Waterliniemuseum Fort bij Vechten, which is within walking distance of the fort.
