The powerful and wealthy VOC-merchant Van Tets sold his country retreat “Vreugd en Rust” (Joy and Peace) in Voorburg to grain merchant Caan, who was married to the rich daughter of banker Hester van Staphorst. She was then known as the richest girl of Holland. Today, “Vreugd en Rust” houses the boutique hotel and restaurant Central Park, where visitors can have a wonderfully sophisticated lunch, dinner or stay the night.
