In the thirteenth century knight Amelis was pledged to the Amelisweerd estate, which was later divided into two parts, Oud-Amelisweerd and Nieuw-Amelisweerd. In 1537, Oud-Amelisweerd was acknowledged as a knight's estate. In the Disaster Year 1672 the house was destroyed by the French. Around 1770, the then owner restructured the estate: a park with extensive gardens was laid out and the manor house was converted into a summer residence.

The garden structure and the house as you see it today date from this period. In 1808 Oud-Amelisweerd was sold to Louis Napoleon who also owned Nieuw-Amelisweerd. Oud-Amelisweerd included a kitchen garden with, among other things, pineapple plants and fruit trees. Now a pop-up exhibition is organised there.
