The front yard of the Biesbosch

Drimmelen, Terheijden, Lage Zwaluwe
The Amer is a river that forms the southern border of the Biesbosch. That has not always been the case, it used to be a wide tidal creek in the same National Park. Originated by the St. Elisabeth flood of 1421, which completely wiped out the village of Drimmelen. After this, the Biesbosch gradually emerged as we know it today. The municipality of Drimmelen is also called the 'Front yard of the Biesbosch' because it's situated at the Amer below the Biesbosch. And did you know that the harbor of smalltown Drimmelen is one of the largest marinas in Western Europe?
