Cycle route Veulen en Paardekop (Foal and Horse Head)

Castenray, Griendtsveen, America
This cycle route takes you around Horst in Limburg and crosses a number of nice nature areas. You will also pass a very small part of Noord-Brabant. By the way, did you know that more than half of the Dutch mushrooms come from Horst?
In the vicinity of junction 88 lies Hei-Oostenrijk. Between the village of Veulen and Griendtsveen, you pass through a forest called Paardekop. There is a watchtower in the forest that gives you a magnificent view of the area. Why it is called Paardekop is not known, but it is suspected that it is because a great battle took place here in the past in which many warriors and their horses died. The horses are said to have been buried in a grave shaped like a horse's head. And if you look at the outline of the Paardekopbos, you could see the outline of a horse's head again.
Although Griendtsveen is situated in Limburg, a pure Brabant dialect is spoken there. Originally only peat cutters lived in the village. Only after all the peat was dug off did Griendtsveen get a residential function. America is known for its Schadijk forests, holiday parks and, of course, the band Rowwen Hèze.
A fantastic cycle route with lots of variation! Along the way, you will come across several beautiful locations to spend the night, which you can use to divide up the cycle route.
