Schokland, Giethoorn, Frederiksoord
This cycle route of the World Heritage Foundation takes you past the UNESCO World Heritage of Schokland and its surroundings and the Colonies of Benevolence. Discover what makes Schokland and the colonies so special. Cycle over the new land that was once the Zuiderzee and over the island that is now on dry land, namely Schokland. Discover the history of this area, which goes back ten thousand years. During this cycle route, you will pass through both Flevoland and Drenthe. Enjoy the atmospheric Giethoorn and get off at the Lokkenpolder for a beautiful view. Take a look at the Frederiksoord Estate and visit the neighbouring Museum De Proefkolonie. Here you will discover how the first colony of Weldadigheid came into being, but also why this history has remained hidden for so long.
