Cycle route through the woods near Vierhouten
Vierhouten, Apeldoorn, Hoog Soeren
There are several explanations about the origin of the name Vierhouten. If you cycle this route you will probably most likely believe in the statement that Vierhouten is wedged between four forests. Apeldoorn comes from 'apa', early medieval for water; and 'thorn' which means something like tree. Trees standing by the water probably gave Apeldoorn its name. It is not for nothing that High Soeren is called this way, as you will notice when cycling this route. But it's worth it: because the route mainly goes through the Crown Estates, at sunrise and sunset there's a good chance you'll see wildlife.
