Cycle route The legend of the Cursed Letter
Kaatsheuvel, Loon op Zand, Loonse en Drunense Duinen
Everyone knows him: the Post Coachman, loyal to his code of honour and delivering every letter. One day he meets a young baroness with an enchanting singing voice at the White Castle. She is waiting for the score for her performance at the music competition of the Abbey of Capelle.
But the Post Coachman fears the worst. Not long ago he delivered a mysterious letter to a musician, who screamed in mortal terror after reading it: “Whoever sees this score is cursed forever. This is the Danse Macabre, or the Dance of Death!”
On 10 October 1876 the Post Coachman stands ready for his round with his horses Stampvoet and Nightmare, when the dark figure appears again with a letter for the baroness. He flees but the letter eventually ends up on his coach. According to his code of honour he must deliver it... but his heart says otherwise.
To protect the baroness he breaks his promise and flees with the letter. His coach races through forests and sand until the figure catches up with him. The coach overturns, letters swirl in the wind and the battle for the cursed letter erupts.
Who will seize it first: the Post Coachman, the Unnameable, or you?
