Cycle Route Long and wide in Smallingerland

Drachten, Earnewald, Oudega
Smallingerland is a municipality in Friesland that is wider than it is long. The municipality owes its name to the Smalle Ee or Smalle Eesterzanding lake. From Smallingerland's main town, Drachten, you can cycle along this narrow water. At De Veenhoop, you cross the water with a ferry and end up in the beautiful nature reserve De Alde Feanen. This low moorland swamp has been designated a National Park, and rightly so, because it is a unique area with a rich flora and fauna.
See all the beauty from the various viewpoints and take your time. On your way back to Drachten, you can make a short (or long) stop in Oudega, which used to be the capital of Smallingerland. Have you enjoyed this route long enough and do you want to sit on a terrace and unwind? Then add Café Tsjoch in Drachten to your cycle route and you are sure to have a pleasant ending.
