Cycle route Explore Veldhoven
Veldhoven, Wintelre, Knegsel
Although you are now mostly cycling through an agricultural landscape, it used to look very different here. Just after the last Ice Age, there was an enormous plain here, covered with plants and where reindeer grazed. The area was, of course, sparsely populated, with a few people living here temporarily and making a living from the edible plants and hunting reindeer.
Later, people stopped hunting and gathering and decided to settle down. The land was cultivated and cattle were raised. Although no direct signs of habitation have been found from that time, stone tools and pottery have been found in Veldhoven municipality. Grave mounds have also been found, which you can view during this route.
