Cycle route along water and historic sites

Weesp, Abcoude, Vreeland
This cycle route takes you right through Weesp, Abcoude and Vreeland, all towns that carry their own atmosphere.
Weesp, with its old streets and windmills, is a fortress from which you look out over the Vecht. Near the village of Vreeland, you cycle past a football field where, until two hundred years ago, a castle still stood. The bishop of Utrecht had it built in the thirteenth century.
You also cycle through Abcoude, with a partially protected village sight. It has nice sights such as windmills and an old fort. In addition, this cycle route takes you close to the Gaasperplas, on the southern edge of Amsterdam. This nature-rich lake was created in the late 1960s by sand extraction for the Gaasperdam.
