Zwillbrocker Venn

Zwillbrocker Venn - Eibergen

N 52.044667 / E 6.697516

This nature reserve just across the German border consists of both woodland and peatland. The Zwillbrocker Venn is home to the largest black-headed gull colony in Germany, with around 16,000 birds. It is also the world's northernmost breeding ground for a colony of about 40 flamingos. The black-headed gulls are present throughout the year and the flamingos are there from March until the end of May after which they leave for warmer places. In many places along the pond lookout huts are made from which the animals can be clearly seen. Don't forget to bring binoculars.
