At the confluence of the Linderbeek and Regge in the Archemermaten, there’s a fixed weir with a 1.2 km long fish ladder. Restoration of aquatic life, like fish and beavers.
Where the Linderbeek meets the Regge, major efforts have been made in recent years to restore water and nature. The old flap weir that used to be here was badly damaged by high water in 2012 and became unusable. To maintain the water level, a temporary emergency weir was installed about 200 metres upstream.
In 2022, the site finally got a permanent solution: a wide fixed weir with a brand-new fish ladder no less than 1.2 kilometres long. This fish ladder allows the Regge to flow naturally again. Fish can now move more freely and easily, boosting biodiversity in the region.
Thanks to the weir and fish ladder, there’s enough water for both the Natura 2000 area Archemermaten and the surrounding farmland. And it’s not just fish that benefit, beavers also live in this area. They’re rarely seen, but with a bit of luck, you might spot one of these impressive builders of the wild.
