Cycle route along the Midden-Regge

Nijverdal, Hellendoorn, Archem
Discover the enchanting beauty of the Twente landscape on a scenic bike ride along the Midden-Regge River. Did you know this majestic river was even immortalised in the Twente anthem from 1926? Recently, the Regge has been restored to its former natural glory. The result is a 10-kilometre river system that now allows for better water storage and nature development.
Over the past few years, a lot has been done to restore nature along the Midden and Lower Regge. Old weirs were replaced with fixed thresholds and long fish passages, so the river can flow naturally again and fish can freely make their way. The riverbanks are shaped more naturally, giving room to richer biodiversity. Fish, birds, and even beavers are returning to this area.
And it's not just nature that benefits... Locals are once again enjoying this beautifully restored landscape!
Don’t forget to explore nearby sights like Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park and the Velderberg. The National Park is known for its stunning heathlands, picturesque forests and impressive sand drifts. At Velderberg, you can clearly see how the Regge shaped the land.
