The Banpost of Westwoud - HOOGKARSPEL
As a criminal in the Golden Age, you could easily get the death penalty. If you didn't get that, chances are you were banned from your village, town or even county. Ban posts were placed to mark the boundaries prominently. On the former boundary between the town of Grootebroek and the town of Westwoud, now Hoogkarspel and Westwoud, there is a well-preserved flagstone from 1754. On the pole you can see a lion. The lion holds a shield on which the coat of arms of Westwoud is depicted: a barren tree with three birds in the branches.
Get off your bike here and fall under the spell of the Banpaal van Westwoud.
