Speulder and Houtdorp Heath - Ermelo

N 52.244964657917 / E 5.7279581139823

The Speulder and Houtdorp Heath is a nature area on the Veluwe, situated on a glacial ridge near Garderen. The landscape consists of a rich mix of dry heathland, open grasslands, small ponds and surrounding woodland. This diversity of habitats makes the area especially attractive for nature lovers and birdwatchers. From the higher parts, you can enjoy wide views, while the combination of open terrain and forest edges creates a typical Veluwe landscape.

Thanks to the variety of habitats, many species can be found here, including skylarks, tree pipits and stonechats. Depending on the season, you can spot different birds: in spring, breeding and singing birds; in autumn, birds of prey such as buzzards; and in winter, species like the great grey shrike. The tranquillity and relatively small scale of the area also make it possible to discover new species throughout the year.
