Nederwaard Mill no. 2 - Kinderdijk
The nineteen mills at Kinderdijk form the largest group of mills in the world. The entire mill complex was designated a monument of outstanding universal value by the World Heritage Committee in 1997 and was placed on the World Heritage List.
One of the reasons for this international protection is that the whole of a historic high and low polder with natural drainage, watercourses, mills, pumping stations, outlet sluices and common land house is still present practically unchanged. The mills have therefore not changed since their construction, which is exceptional!
The windmills of Kinderdijk belong to one of the top tourist attractions of our country. About three million tourists, half of them foreigners, visit Kinderdijk every year. When the weather is favourable and there is enough wind, the windmills can be seen in operation every day.
