Museum de Schat van (the Treasure of) Simpelveld - Simpelveld
The museum De Schat van Simpelveld (The Treasure of Simpelveld) is located in the former monastery Huize Loreto. In 1875, the Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus moved into this impressive building complex. Still today, the congregation that is spread over several parts of the world is managed from Simpelveld. Children were taken care of, nursed and taught there. This monastic life is told in the museum. The exhibition shows how people lived between 1877 and 2012.
The sisters also made handicrafts, as was done in many convents. They wove clothes and church textiles, but also created beautiful paraments and wax figures. These works of art are exhibited in the museum. The sisters like to pass on their knowledge and skills of art to the new generation.
