Mill de Wieker Meule

Mill de Wieker Meule - De Wijk

N 52.672626 / E 6.287158

The mill was built in 1829 in De Wijk, but is actually much older. Originally the mill was built in the Staphorster Leijen, where it was probably built in 1764. In 1829 Jacob Schiphorst Haalweide bought the original bell mill and had it rebuilt in De Wijk as a scaffolding mill. The mill had two pairs of stones in the milling attic, which were driven by the wind. After the construction of a warehouse against the mill, two grinding stones were placed on the ground floor as well. These were driven by a diesel-, later electric motor. In 1962 the mill was stopped. During the major restoration of 1978, the mill received a new cap, a new scaffold and new blades. The Wieker Meule Foundation has been the owner of De Wieker Meule since 1996. In 2012, the mill underwent a major overhaul and new reed was added to the attached barn around the mill.
