Along the Regge River lies a fish ladder of over 1 km between Archem and Hancate. Fish use it to pass the weir while nature is being restored.
Between the Archem and Hancate weirs, a 1+ kilometre long fish ladder has been created as part of the Archemermaten-Hancate project. The ladder helps fish safely pass the weir’s height difference on their way to upstream spawning areas.
It’s a great sight to see the flowing water and fish “climbing” upstream. These changes help restore nature and improve the landscape experience. Natural riverbanks and meanders are returning, and the river has more space.
There’s parking nearby at the Hancate weir (Hancateweg Oost).
