In Park Overvoorde, a remarkable piece of history is hidden: the former command post of the Civil Defence. The complex was established at the beginning of the Second World War as a German listening and radio post for the Luftwaffe. From here, Allied radio messages were intercepted and German communication was coordinated. After the war, the site took on a new role as a training and command centre for the Civil Defence, complete with practice ruins and a later constructed atomic bunker.
Today, the bunker complex can be visited as a museum, only through guided tours. Original equipment, map rooms and the impressive infrastructure offer a unique glimpse into decades of crisis preparation. The surrounding Park Overvoorde, with its monumental avenues and ponds, makes a visit even more worthwhile. Hop off your bike and discover this hidden piece of history in the greenery.
