City Hall | Tourist Information - Heusden

N 51.733967 / E 5.13804

The old town hall of Heusden is located in the city centre. The building was built in 1461 in late Gothic style. After the town fire of 1572, the town hall was rebuilt, extended further in 1635 and completely renovated in 1876. It belonged to the most beautiful Gothic town halls in the Netherlands.

Unfortunately, in the night of 4 to 5 November 1944, the Heusden Town Hall disaster took place. When the German army withdrew during the Second World War, the tower of the town hall was blown up, killing 134 people. Afterwards, the town hall was not rebuilt in its old form. Now it is a tourist information point, visitor centre and regional archive. The building has been built in the style of the Bossche School after a design by architect Nico van der Laan. In the building, you will find a scale model of Heusden and a guild room.
