Thirty years ago, this was still a rubbish dump. Today, the Volgermeerpolder is a water-rich nature reserve. Incidentally, it is not a real polder: the area was originally called the Volgerweren, but in 1853 a mapmaker mistakenly labelled it the Volgermeerpolder.
