N 51.966541864055 / E 5.6767302782346

Part of the estate surrounding Villa Hinkeloord is the arboretum of the same name. The botanical garden was established in 1855 by Dirk Vreede and named after his former plantation on Java. The garden is designed in landscape style, with gentle slopes, solitary trees and groups of trees, offering beautiful views. Sculptures have also been placed in the garden to let art and nature complement each other.

The arboretum acquired its current form partly through contributions by Hartogh Heys van Zouteveen, a lecturer in garden design, especially after the villa came into use for education and forestry over time.

Many of the trees have a history of several decades. To learn more, you can join a guided tour. You can also walk through the gardens independently every day from 10:00 to 17:00, and entry is free.
