In the Waarderpolder stands one of the largest wastewater treatment plants of Rijnland. The AWZI was built in 1969. Here the wastewater from approximately 250,000 households and businesses in Haarlem and the surrounding area is treated. Rijnland is working on expansion and renewal of the installation. After the renovation, the wastewater of around 296,000 households and businesses can be processed.
The treatment plant plays an important role in keeping the water in the region clean. In this way Rijnland ensures that wastewater is treated safely and responsibly and returned to nature.
