Memorial Battle of Ypenburg - Den Haag
This monument is also called the Monument Grenadiers and Jagers. It is a monument in memory of soldiers from the Regiment Garde Grenadiers and Jagers. The soldiers were killed in 1940 during a German attack around the airport of Ypenburg. The airport was recaptured by Dutch soldiers, but this was at the cost of the lives of 515 soldiers. 208 of these soldiers belonged to the Regiment Garde Grenadiers and Jagers.
The text on the monument reads:
IN MEMORY OF OUR WARRIORS
THOSE IN THE MAY DAYS OF 1940 AND BEYOND
HERE AND OVERSEAS
GAVE THEIR LIFE FOR THEIR FATHERLAND
Since 2010, a memorial commemorates the monument on May 10th every year.
