Country Estate De Paauw - Wassenaar
The route around De Paauw Estate brings you to the neo classicistic white manor. This manor was built in the 16th century and was owned by prince Frederik van Oranje-Nassau (1797-1881). In 1850 the prince was given a special gift by the Russian tsar Alexander II, namely the marble horse watering trough featuring a lion on either side. This can still be found in front of the manor. The surrounding gardens are especially beautiful due to their twin ponds and wounding paths. The manor today acts as Wassenaars’ town hall. It also houses the small-scale fire brigade museum (open only on Saturdays and Sundays).
