Castle De Hooge Vuursche - Baarn

N 52.2037124 / E 5.2459655

In the so-called Lowlands of Pijnenburg lies the hamlet of Vuursche, which is a lower part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Besides De Hoge Vuursche, De Lage Vuursche also exists. The name is said to originate from place names and refer to the poisonous gorse. This shrub was once common in the wooded, poor sandy soils. In the 19th century, De Hoge Vuursche was owned by Louise Rutgers van Rozenburg. After her death, the widower Johannes A. van den Bosch commissioned the architect Eduard Cuypers to build the current complex. Because of his maritime interests, the house has many ornaments related to shipping.
