Terrace route To see and to be seen
Hamont, Achel, Westerhoven
When the first rays of sun appear, do you also prefer to sit on a terrace? Besides a tasty bite and drink in the open air, a hospitality terrace is of course also about seeing and being seen. For everyone who can enjoy looking, we have put together this cycling route.
While you cycle through the beautiful nature in Belgium and the Netherlands, you can stop along the way at the nicest viewpoints. In the majestic conifer forests of the Leenderbos, take a look at the Wildkijkscherm. Who knows, you might spot a few foxes, wild boar or roe deer.
A little further on you admire the pure nature of the Groote Heide from viewing tower De Achelse Kluis. Via Hamont and Achel the route continues to nature area and bird reserve De Liskes. Here a birdwatching hide offers a beautiful view over countless ponds. And just outside Bergeijk, with a bit of imagination, you can see the destroyed castle ‘Huis Berch Eyck’ through a transparent panel.
There are plenty of cosy terraces along the way. This makes it easy to set aside a whole day for this route. Start with coffee and cake, stop halfway for lunch and end your cycling tour with a well deserved drink. The terraces are just as diverse as the viewpoints. For example, from Het Wapen van Westerhoven you have a view of the lively Dorpstraat. At De Woeste Polder you are surrounded on the terrace by a green oasis of peace. And at De Achelse Kluis you let yourself be surrounded by history.
