Sweet cycle route through the Baronie

Breda, Oosterhout, Strijbeek
Discover the Baronie of Breda by bike: a combination of urban ambience and vast nature. You’ll see how horticulture was an important part of the area’s development.
In the centre of Breda, as early as the Middle Ages, you could find a colourful collection of vegetable gardens and orchards. Eventually, it grew into an important trade centre for horticulture. Breda strawberries were transported to London, and fruit processing factories such as jam and soft drink companies established their base in the city. This made Breda the heart of the Brabant sugar industry.
The surrounding area noticed this too. Take Oosterhout, for example, which, thanks to large manufacturers such as Jamin (sweets and ice cream) and Schriek (gingerbread), grew from a poor provincial town into a lively centre.
Cycle past the traces of the past as you ride from city to village. Along the way, you’ll encounter green fields and lush nature reserves. Get on your trusty bike and taste the sweet specialties of the Baronie!
