Cycling route Pieterpad (part 2)
Groningen, Haren, Onnen, Zuidlaren, Rolde
When you cycle out of Groningen, you pass the Kooiweg. There you'll find Architektron Urania, one of the ten works of art that are, as it were, modern landmarks of the city. The Nicolaaskerk in Haren has a striking octagonal spire with slates, rare in the Netherlands. Furthermore, Haren also has a catering garden. In Onnen, you will find, next to a few individual farms, a few buildings in the style of the Delft School. The village also has a windmill: 'De Biks'. To the east of Zuidlaren stands windmill 'De Wachter'. Besides the mill, the village is also worth a visit for its old steam engines, bakery, grocery shop, forge, spice mill and oil butcher. The mill is also a mill maker's workshop. In Rolde you'll find two dolmens near the gothic Jacobus church from the fourteenth century. At Glimmen you have the Pavilion Appelbergen with the nature reserve of the same name. An ideal place to start and end the cycle route.
