Cycling route of activity and tranquility

Delft, Schiedam, Vlaardingen
This cycling route partly goes through the bustling heart of South Holland. But it also lets you discover the historic city centre of Delft. In addition, the route passes through recreational area Broekpolder, the Abtwoudse Bos, the Delftse Hout, the Ackerdijkse Plassen and the Prinses Beatrixpark. In these green spots, you’ll leave the hustle of the city behind and find peace in nature.
The princely city of Delft is known for the fact that the Nieuwe Kerk is the final resting place of the royal family, but of course especially for the world-famous Delft Blue pottery. As you stroll through the streets and canals, you’ll come across stately courtyards, historic gates, and many monumental buildings with characteristic façades. Be sure to pause at the huge square in front of the beautiful city hall. You’ll find various museums and all kinds of nice little shops there.
The surrounding villages and cities are also worth a visit. Take Schiedam, for example, known for its gin, the tallest windmills in the world, and beautiful old canals. Vlaardingen has a protected cityscape spread over no less than three areas. So be sure to take a walk or bike ride through the centre of Vlaardingen — especially the Markt, with its many monuments, will take you back in time.
Start your cycling route at TOP Ackerdijkse Bos near junction 08. Here you’ll find a spacious car park and an information board about the area.
