Goirle, Hilvarenbeek, Roovert

Goirle is a small village just south of Tilburg. In the 12th century, a knight named Gerhard van Gorle gave the village its name. Tilburg and Goirle once formed a joint municipality governed by the Duke of Brabant, but they separated in the 18th century. In 1997, Tilburg attempted reunification, but Goirle’s residents resisted and instead pushed for expansion.

This cycling route takes you through beautiful landscapes and interesting sights in Goirle. The three windmills along the way are operational on Saturdays and worth a visit.

Landgoed Nieuwkerk dates back to the 13th century as a small farm. It became a monastery in the 17th century and, since 2018, has operated as a restaurant and hotel. Adjacent is the Naturentuin—an ecological garden with kitchen gardens, greenhouses, and colorful flowers.

Next is Landgoed Gorp en Roovert, steeped in history. Formerly owned by various families and now cared for by the Puijenbroek family, the estate is open to cyclists and walkers. Wander through its ancient woods and see the beautiful hunting lodge.
