Cycling route from the polder to the coast
Haarlem, Bloemendaal, Zandvoort
Start your cycling route in the polders, under the smoke of Schiphol Airport and dive into nature with us. The cycling route leads you in less than sixty kilometers from the polders, through the dunes to the coast.
You will pass through the Zuid-Kennemerland Nature Park, an area characterized by dunes and sand barriers. It extends over some thirty-eight square kilometers and more than one hundred different species of birds have been observed.
In the city of Haarlem, you pass the Spaarne River. This river flows through Haarlem to Spaarndam and has a rich history. It formed the connection between the Haarlemmermeer and the IJ in the 13th century. In the thirteenth century, a dam with sluices was constructed in the Spaarne at its mouth on the IJ as part of the Spaarndammerdijk. This is where the village of Spaarndam arose.
