Cycling around De Moerputten
Cromvoirt, Vught, Nieuwkuijk
To the west of ’s-Hertogenbosch lies a surprisingly varied landscape of nature and history. Starting from Cromvoirt, you cycle past the recreational lake De IJzeren Man. Once formed through sand extraction, it has since become a popular place to relax by the water.
Via the Vughtse Lunetten, former defensive works of the Southern Waterline, and the Vught Heath, you continue towards De Moerputten. This nature reserve is known for its wet landscape of marshes, reeds and floating peat bogs. These floating layers support rare plant species, including several types of orchids. The Moerputten Bridge is a true highlight. As you cycle across this historic railway bridge, you’ll enjoy wide views over the area and truly experience the peace and openness of the landscape.
The route then leads back towards Cromvoirt via Nieuwkuijk and along the drainage canal between ’s-Hertogenbosch and Drongelen. Along the way, you pass the pick-your-own garden Pluck van het Veld on the Cromvoirtsedijk. Picking is only allowed with a subscription or during special picking days, but even without a basket it’s a lovely place to stop and have a look around. A perfect final stop before cycling back to the starting point in a relaxed mood.
