Cycle route Veluwezoom and Rhederlaag

Rheden, Giesbeek, Doesburg
The large lake along the IJssel near Rheden and Giesbeek is the Rhederlaag. It has over 350 hectares of water surface. This makes it a favourite spot for water sports enthusiasts. But also for lazing on the beach with an occasional swim the Rhederlaag is a wonderful destination. An ideal place to cool down during your bicycle tour.
The Veluwezoom National Park more than lives up to expectations. The sloping surroundings are full of heath and mixed forests. From various points, you have a beautiful view of the nature. You can also encounter various wild animals here. How about a red deer, roe deer, wild boar or a fox? Scottish highlanders and Icelandic ponies graze the fields. The Rheden flock of sheep can also regularly be found on the heath of the Veluwezoom.
Rheden and Lathum are nice villages to stop and explore. Doesburg is an old Hanseatic city with many historical landmarks. The city counts no less than 150 national monuments. Be sure to check out the Waag, the old city hall and the Martinikerk. The Doesburgsche Musterdfabriek also houses a museum, where you will learn the story of one of Doesburg's most characteristic products.
The beautiful nature of the Veluwe and the banks of the IJssel, together with the historic Gelderland towns, make this a surprising and varied cycle route!
