Cycle Route Veluwe Folk Tales (Part 1)

Ermelo, Garderen, Kootwijk
A cycle route full of stories, back to the past. When the farmers had harvested and winter came, there was little work left for them to do. On Veluwe farms, some maintenance was still carried out, but the long, dark evenings were ideal for telling stories. About godless monks in Putten, innocent criminals in Garderen, lost schoolmasters in the Kootwijkerzand and hunters trapped in Hoog Soeren...
The Veluwe mysteries take place in beautiful natural surroundings. This cycle route is full of forests, heathland and sand drifts. You will also pass the Uddelemeer, a geological remnant from the last ice age. The lake was created by a collapsed ice hill, also known as a pingoruïne, and is the source of the Hierdense Beek. People already lived here in prehistoric times. All kinds of traces of life from the Funnel Beaker Culture have been found around the lake. The Hunneschans, a medieval structure in the landscape, is still visible today. This natural phenomenon was the inspiration for various legends about giants and Donar, the god of thunder. Add the stop to your route and discover the legends.
Travel through the unspoilt landscape from story to story. Along the way, you will find beautiful places to eat and drink, where you can relax and take in all the impressions. A wonderful day out while travelling back in time!
