The Veluwe mysteries take place in beautiful natural surroundings. This cycle route is full of forests, heathland and sand drifts. You will also pass the Uddelemeer, a geological remnant from the last ice age. The lake was created by a collapsed ice hill, also known as a pingoruïne, and is the source of the Hierdense Beek. People already lived here in prehistoric times. All kinds of traces of life from the Funnel Beaker Culture have been found around the lake. The Hunneschans, a medieval structure in the landscape, is still visible today. This natural phenomenon was the inspiration for various legends about giants and Donar, the god of thunder.
