Ouddorp, Goedereede, Hoogerhuis

This cycle route is not only perfect for young and old, but also has a lot of beauty in store for nature lovers. Discover the splendour and diversity of Zuid-Holland's largest dune landscape, where wide open plains and vast sandy beaches meet lush vegetation on top of the high dune tops.

From cosy Ouddorp, cycle towards historic Goedereede. The place name is an old-fashioned word for 'safe harbour', something Goedereede used to be for many fishermen. To reach the trading town, fishermen had to take their boats along the infamous 'Kwade Hoek'. Here, the currents were very unpredictable. The sandbanks off the coast moved continuously, causing many fishing boats to run aground or even perish. The boats that made it through the trip and managed to reach Goedereede were finally safe there.

The Kwade Hoek remains a dynamic nature reserve to this day, where the brute force of the sea continues to shape the landscape.

Also visit Goat Farm De Mèkkerstee, a fun place for the whole family! You will meet the happy goats and can experience goat milking yourself. Be sure to linger to sample the artisanal, home-made products. How about a piece of goat's cheese or a scoop of ice cream made out of goat's milk?
