Cycle route over the head of Schouwen
Serooskerke, Burgh-Haamstede, Renesse
Renesse may still have the name of a holiday area for young people, but in recent years the village has developed into a real family seaside town. The gentlemen of Renesse were influential men. Their castle, Moermond Castle, still exists. Lord Alard's children founded a village they called Sheralardskindskerke, later changed to Serooskerke. The dike at Serooskerke broke through in 1953, flooding the Schouwen polder. A new dike created the Schelphoek nature reserve. Although Burgh and Haamstede form a town, both villages from which they originate are still clearly recognizable.
