Cycle route National Park Lauwersmeer
Lauwersoog, Zoutkamp, Anjum
Cycle in the far north from Friesland to Groningen, or the other way round, and you will be more than surprised when you go for a ride around Lauwersmeer National Park. Did you know that both fresh and salt water used to flood into each other here in the Lauwerszee? The fear of this flooding caused a dam to be built in 1969. What used to be sea bed is now this National Park: a beautiful landscape and a paradise for birds. For bird lovers, this is the perfect route. You cycle past two bird huts where you can spot many different species of birds. You might even see 30,000 barnacle geese flying overhead in one day!
