Cycle route Heerenveen and Wolvega
Heerenveen, Wolvega, Munnekeburen
Start your ride on the edge of Heerenveen and head towards the beautiful Tjeukemeer, where you’ll ride beside the rippling water and take in wide open views. This largest lake in Friesland is the perfect place to get some fresh air. From here, the route continues to the special nature area Rottige Meente. This is a unique wetland where nature runs wild. The otter made its Dutch comeback here and with some luck you might spot traces of this rare animal. Be sure to stop at the viewpoint to take in the impressive scenery of reed beds, waterways and swamp forests.
Via winding rivers like the Scheene and the Tjonger you’ll reach Wolvega, where a visit to Museum ’t Kiekhuus gives you a glimpse into the past. This charming little museum in the town centre offers an intimate look at life back in the day. The route then takes you back towards Heerenveen to finish your active day out.
Tip: Coming by car first? Start your route at junction 27 in Heerenveen or at TOP Delfstrahuizen Echtenerbrug. You can park for free at both locations.
