Cycle route around Margraten

Margraten, Valkenburg, Slenaken
The landscape around Margraten has everything: beautiful nature, historical buildings, marl quarries and cosy catering establishments. Anyone who wants to enjoy this region to the full should choose this route. From Margraten, you cycle through impressive surroundings with views over Maastricht and the Maas valley towards Valkenburg, a town full of castles, ruins and caves. At the end of the 19th century, coal was mined in this area. In Valkenburg you can visit a coal mine and experience the life of a miner.
Afterwards, cycle on to the atmospheric Gulpen, not only famous for its beer (Gulpener) but also for the thickest marsh cypress of the Netherlands. You'll find it in the park around Neubourg Castle. The southernmost point of the cycle route is Slenaken, surrounded by the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands. Here, it feels as if you are on holiday in France, Switzerland or Austria (just where you are). The village is therefore also called the 'Pearl of South Limburg'.
