Cycle route around Hoogeveen
Hoogeveen
Hoogeveen was once intended to grow into a place for 100,000 inhabitants. It never came to that, but its ambitious plans have made Hoogeveen a city with many amenities. In the centre, you will find old houses with beautiful facades, such as the House with the Pigeonholes and a former drugstore with a gable stone from 1703. In the gable, probably the oldest in Hoogeveen, you can read the text "So Godt voor ons is Wie sal tegen ons syn".
There has been a mill on the site of Korenmolen De Zwaluw since the 17th century. The present mill was built in 1834. Cycle past, step off, hear the cogs creak and smell the freshly ground flour. The Cascade runs through the centre: now a work of art, it used to be a canal for transporting goods. If you want to take a break on the cycle route, there are various possibilities. After a cup of coffee or a delicious meal, you will be fully recharged to discover the surroundings of Hoogeveen. The nature here is beautiful!
